Little Island is an award-winning public park located in Hudson River Park, where all New Yorkers and visitors can experience nature and art in a unique urban oasis on the Hudson River.
Rising from the remnants of Pier 54, Little Island sits on a site that has played a pivotal role in the story of the Hudson River and its surrounding communities. Every visit to Little Island is a reminder of the dynamic evolution of New York City’s waterfront.
Little Island opened on May 21, 2021, as an oasis for New Yorkers. It has more than two acres of magnificent landscape, distinctive architecture, dazzling views, and an abundance of free education programs and performances. After a year of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, visitors embraced the essential need for a connection to nature, art, and community, and we hosted more than 1 million visitors in our inaugural year. Little Island continues to benefit from the generosity and commitment of the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation. Visit Little Island and discover a place for leisure, recreation, and play. Whether you’re enjoying a scheduled arts activity or making your own fun, we welcome you to refresh and rest during your time at the park. As you explore Little Island, you’ll find items for play sprinkled throughout the park for your delight. Objects are available depending on the season, so come back to find your favorite source of play! Delight in the sounds and tones of the Dance Chimes; be transfixed by the optical illusions of the Spinning Discs along our pathways; try your hand at our Instrument for All and Ferraphone music makers; roll around in one of our spun chairs or move around with our jump ropes and hula hoops.
