David Geffen Hall

Home to the New York Philharmonic, the Wu Tsai Theater is designed with optimized sightlines in mind, resulting in a more unified and intimate relationship between audience and performer. Designed by Diamond Schmitt Architects, led by Gary McCluskie, in collaboration with master acoustician Paul Scarbrough of Akustiks, the hall's state-of-the-art flexibility accommodates choral performances, recitals, semi-staged opera, dance, and film premieres, amplified pop and rock concerts, and more, from the Jerry Speyer and Katherine Farley Stage. The sculpted, natural design—with textures reminiscent of sound waves—fosters a warm setting within the space paired with firefly light fixtures that create a luminous focal point above­ the orchestra.

The Wu Tsai Theater is named in honor of a catalytic $50 million dollar gift by Clara Wu Tsai and Joe Tsai, philanthropist and Lincoln Center Board Member, during the deepest moment of the pandemic. The gift helped accelerate the project by two years, supporting more than 6,000 jobs at a time when they were urgently needed. As part of the gift, the Wu Tsai Series features performances that celebrate interdisciplinary artworks from diverse voices that take advantage of the Theater’s intimacy and flexibility. This integral series kicks off during the inaugural season of David Geffen Hall.
